No government school teacher will be transferred from today onwards till the end of the academic session across the state. In accordance with the decision taken in the Cabinet meeting a few days ago, teachers will now be transferred only once a year at the end of the academic session to ensure the learning of students does not suffer due to the unavailability of teachers.

Besides, the order has been issued to shut down 99 schools with zero enrolment with immediate effect. Also, the primary schools having five or less than five students will be merged with other schools within a radius of 2km, having more than five students. Similarly, middle schools having five or less than five students will be merged with schools within a radius of 3km, having more than five students.
As per the order, the administrative heads of the schools will also have to teach their subject to at least one class. All schools have been directed to conduct a session of physical exercise of at least 15 minute during the morning assembly. Also, all schools will have to have at least one period in a day for sports and physical training.
The infrastructure of the closed or merged schools will not be handed over to any other department. It will be used for community libraries, gymnasiums and for sports purpose with the permission of the Education Department. Also, it has been decided to merge exclusively boys or girls schools having low enrolment to run these institutions as co-education schools.
