The state government has revised the green tax rates for vehicles entering Billing, the world-famous paragliding destination in Kangra district. Known for hosting the International Paragliding World Cup Championship for the past three years, Bir-Billing attracts thousands of tourists daily.

A spokesperson for the Special Area Development Authority (SADA), which was established by the state government to oversee the development of Bir-Billing, stated that the decision to revise the green tax was made to generate funds for maintaining cleanliness and providing essential amenities. These include drinking water, parking facilities, garbage disposal and public washrooms.

With no financial support from government agencies, SADA had been struggling to manage the increasing tourist footfall. However, with the implementation of the green tax, necessary funds have been secured, enabling the authority to improve facilities for visitors.

The revised tariff structure approved by the government includes a charge of Rs 30 for light vehicles, Rs 70 for taxis from outside the state, Rs 20 for local taxis and Rs 100 for buses and minibuses. State-registered vehicles will be charged Rs 30, while bikes will incur a fee of Rs 20.

Through the green tax, SADA expects to collect Rs 21.5 lakh this year.
