Hamirpur, August 3
Shivansh of Hamirpur brought laurels to the state as he defeated players of Odisha and Madhya Pradesh in the opening matches of the National Junior Under-19 Ranking Badminton Tournament held in Bhubaneswar yesterday.
Shivansh is a resident of Galore village. The victory has paved his way to make place in the main draws of the tournament.
He defeated Mario Redan of Odisha in the opening match by 15-6 and 15-10, Ujjwal Goyel of MP by 15-9 and 15-13 and Vaibhav Asan of Telangana by 15-11 and 15-10. Notably, Shivansh was also the state champion last year in the U-19 and senior category. He is also a gold medallist in the championship of School Games Federation of India in the team and single category.
Rajender Sharma, former National Badminton team manager, said Shivansh had the potential to represent the nation in future.
