The president of the district unit of the Master Games Association, Suresh Handa, said the two-day event would bring together master athletes from across Himachal Pradesh. He said the athletes would compete in 11 different sporting disciplines, including athletics, basketball, volleyball, hockey, kabaddi, yoga, table tennis, darts, judo, chess and wrestling.

He added participants aged above 30 years would be eligible to compete in the tournament.

Officials of the State Master Games Association convened a meeting with district representatives at the Circuit House on Sunday to review preparations and inspect the venues.

Handa said former athletes, sports associations and the local business community would extend their support towards the successful conduct of the sporting event.

The president of the state unit, Vinod Kumar, said players selected from this championship would get the opportunity to represent Himachal Pradesh at the upcoming National Masters Games in Pune. Outstanding performers could also qualify for the World Masters Games to be held in Japan next year, he added. Kumar emphasised maintaining strict discipline and ensuring the best possible arrangements and facilities for visiting athletes.

The state general secretary, Tejasvi Sharma, state treasurer MR Shardiyal, state vice-presidents Ravindra Sharma and Vijay Sharma, Bakshi Chand Jaswal, Keval Ram, Suresh Nadda, volleyball convener Jitendra Vaidya and executive member Anil Saunkhla , among others were present on the occasion.
