Minister of Health and Family Welfare Dhani Ram Shandil today launched various projects at Shimla’s Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Hospital, formerly known as the Ripon Hospital.

The Minister inaugurated a bridge connecting the old and new buildings of the hospital, a modular operation theatre and a special newborn care unit. With the launch of these projects, better health facilities will be available to the patients.

The bridge has been constructed at a cost of Rs 1.90 crore and the modular operation theatre at Rs 1.52 crore.

The Minister said that the state government was constantly striving to provide quality and accessible health services to the people.

He added that the development of the health sector was extremely necessary and the state government was focusing on expanding services in the remote areas.

As many as 70 Adarsh health institutions, with six specialist doctors each, were being opened in every Assembly constituency, he said.

Shandil said that there was demand for some machines and staff at the Ripon Hospital. “The process for purchasing these has been initiated and they will be delivered soon. Besides, the issue of staff shortage will also be addressed promptly,” he said.
