Heavy rainfall predicted in 6 districts of Himachal; 869 roads remain blocked

As many as 869 roads, including three National Highways (NHs), which were damaged due to heavy downpour, remain blocked for vehicular traffic across Himachal Pradesh.

As per the State Emergency Operation Centre, as many as 225 roads, including NH 03 and 305, are blocked in Kullu district alone which is the highest in the state. Also, as many as 191 roads are blocked in Mandi, 154 in Shimla, 116 in Chamba, 48 in Sirmaur, 45 in Kangra, 33 in Una, 22 in Solan, 18 in Bilaspur,  11 in Lahaul and Spiti, eight, including NH 05, in Kinnaur and three in Hamirpur district are also blocked due to multiple landslides.

Additionally, about 1,572 distribution transformers, including 873 in Kullu, 259 in Mandi, 142 each in Shimla, Chamba and Lahaul and Spiti, seven in Solan, six in Sirmaur, and one in Kinnaur district, are also disrupted, leaving many places of the state without electricity.

Apart from this, as many as 389 drinking water supply schemes, including 183 in Shimla, 79 in Mandi, 63 in Kullu, 30 in Chamba, 19 in Solan 11 in Kangra and four in Hamirpur district, also remain disrupted, affecting the drinking water supply in many areas of the state.

Meanwhile, heavy rainfall is very likely to occur in isolated areas of Himachal Pradesh as the State’s Meteorological Department has issued a yellow weather warning for Kangra, Mandi, Chamba, Hamirpur, Una and Lahaul and Spiti districts for today.
