Army veterans Ex-Naik Dev Prakash, a Vir Chakra awardee, and Hony Capt Charan Das (retired), a Shaurya Chakra awardee, also paid floral tributes at the memorial, and were honoured by the DC.

The DC said Kargil War showed the exemplary courage, dedication and selfless service of the members of our armed forces towards the motherland. The state’s youth had always been keen to join the armed forces, and those serving in these forces had proved their mettle in the face of challenging situations, he added. He said the sacrifices made by our soldiers needed to be remembered as a source of inspiration for the coming generations. District Ex-Servicemen League president Capt Shakti Chand (retired) presented a charter of demands to the DC on behalf of the league, to which the DC directed all departments concerned to take immediate action.

The DC announced that a help desk would be set up for ex-servicemen at the mini-secretariat, where veterans could seek assistance or redressal of their grievances.
