The HP High Court has taken a suo motto cognizance on the issue cutting of trees in the Kala Amb, Trilokpur region in Sirmaur district and sought status report from the state on this issue.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice GS Sandhawalia and Justice Ranjan Sharma has taken cognizance on the communication received in this regard, whereby it was brought to the notice of the court that there is large-scale of cutting of trees in the Kala AmbTrilokpur region in Sirmaur district, including Khair trees. Various photographs have also been attached in support of the said petition.

Treating this communication as a public interest litigation, the court directed the government to file a status report by May 27.
