No loss of life was reported as no work was going on for the last few days owing to the rain. A tempo traveller, carrying tourists, however, had a close shave as big boulders and debris rolled down from the hill seconds after it crossed the spot, said local residents.

Traffic was put on hold as vehicles queued up on both sides of the road. Locals said the site was vulnerable to landslides.

This is the second landslide at this spot during the last one year.

ML Sharma Executive Engineer, PWD, Kasauli, said in the absence of soil testing undertaking construction on the slopes was risky. It was important to ascertain the depth at which the hard rock was available through exploration to lay a sound foundation. With seepage of water, the soil appears to have been eroded.
