Himachal Cabinet gives nod to filling 3,970 vacancies in Jal Shakti Department

The Himachal Cabinet, under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, today approved the appointment of 3,970 para workers in the Jal Shakti Department, besides jobs in other departments as well.

The 3,970 posts comprise 1,146 vacancies of para pump operators, 480 para fitters and 2,344 multi-purpose workers on an honorarium basis (six hourly per day) in the Jal Shakti Department. These appointees would look after the department schemes, as per the Para Worker Policy.

The Cabinet also gave nod to filling 389 posts of Panchayat Secretary in the Panchayati Raj Department on a contract basis through the Staff Selection Board. It also approved the creation of 124 posts and filling 40 posts of technical assistant in the Panchayati Raj Department, besides filling 124 posts of Gram Rojgar Sewak for newly constituted gram panchayats.

The Cabinet gave approval to creating and filling 73 posts of policemen in the state Excise Department. It also gave nod to providing four per cent reservation in the total number of vacancies in the cadre strength in promotional posts within Class IV, from Class IV to Class III, within Class III, from Class III to Class II, within Class II and from Class II to the lowest rung of Class I for persons with benchmark disabilities, in government services.

To ensure that the Himachal Pradesh Staff Selection Commission, Hamirpur, conducts free and fair examinations, the Cabinet decided that recruitment/ examination would be brought under the preview of the the Himachal Pradesh Prevention of Malpractices at University, Board or Other Specified Examination Act, 1984. It also gave nod to amending the Himachal Pradesh Widow Remarriage Rules-2013 by making a provision of providing a grant of Rs 65,000 instead of the existing Rs 50,000 to the couple.

The Cabinet gave nod to providing a fixed amount to the Chairman and the Members of the Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (HPPSC) after the completion of their terms.

Now, the Chairman after retirement would receive Rs 6,000 for every year of his term. Similarly, the Members after retirement would get Rs 5,000 for each year of service. With the terms of both Chairman and Members being six years, they would receive Rs 36,000 and Rs 30,000, respectively, after retirement. However, these amounts could not be termed as pension, which was the demand of most of the retired Members of the HPPSC.
