Himachal Govt committed to promoting job-oriented learning: Kuldeep Singh Pathania

The state government is committed to improve quality of education and promote vocational and employment-oriented learning to create more job opportunities in both public and private sectors, Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania said on Wednesday.

Pathania was addressing a public meeting after inaugurating postgraduate classes, digital library and a reading room at Government College, Chowari, in his home constituency of Bhattiyat in Chamba district.

Pathania said the government’s priority was infrastructure development in the education sector. He added that the Bhattiyat Assembly constituency had seen remarkable growth in education over the past three decades, resulting in many students from Chowari college excelling.

He said that the government had recruited around 3,500 teachers and more hiring was expected in the near future to address the issue of a shortage of teachers.

Pathania also announced that the construction of a double-lane road from Sinhuta to Chamba would be completed by the next year. Additionally, Rs 3 crore is being spent on preventing landslides in Kalidhar area while a long-term plan costing Rs 29 crore is in progress for the same. Under the Rural Sanitation Scheme, Rs 32 crore is being invested in Sinhuta.

Addressing the growing concerns about drug abuse, Pathania stressed the government’s resolve to curb drug trafficking and rehabilitate those affected by the menace. He urged students to take a pledge to stay away from drugs and encourage others to do the same.

Pathania pledged Rs 6 lakh for a botanical garden and Rs 10 lakhs for the Principal’s residence and other related works at the college. He also directed the Public Works Department to prepare an estimate for the construction of a stage within the college campus.

Earlier, Pathania formally inaugurated postgraduate classes for Hindi, political science and chemistry at the college as well as the newly constructed e-library and a reading room, which would cost around Rs 7 lakh.
