Himachal: Heavy rain likely today, orange alert issued

The weather department has issued an orange alert for heavy rainfall at isolated places in Kangra, Chamba, Mandi and Kullu districts for Saturday and Sunday. In the districts of Solan, Sirmaur and Shimla, an orange alert for heavy rainfall has been issued for June 1.

Overall, there is a likelihood of wet spell and thunderstorm activity in many parts of the state from tomorrow till June 3. An orange alert for thunderstorm, accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (50-60 kmph) at isolated places in Kangra, Chamba, Mandi and Kullu districts has been issued.

The districts of Solan, Sirmaur and Shimla are likely to endure these conditions on June 1.

Meanwhile, Solan, Shimla and its adjacent places were lashed by heavy rain this morning. The sudden downpour caused waterlogging on roads, causing much inconvenienced to office-goers and students in the mornings.

The sudden rain caused a significant dip in temperatures in and around Shimla. The maximum temperatures are likely to fall by 4°C-6°C in many parts of the state during next 24 hours.

Thereafter, the maximum temperatures are likely to rise by 2°C-3°C in the subsequent three to four days.
