Himachal receives deficient rainfall during pre-monsoon period
Himachal has recorded the 39th lowest rainfall in the pre-monsoon period of March to May since 1901. The state has recorded a deficiency of 27 per cent, receiving 175 mm against the normal rainfall of 240.7 mm in this period. The lowest rainfall in the pre-monsoon period in the state was recorded in 2022 when just 63.8 mm rain was recorded.
As for districts, Sirmaur (73 per cent) received large excess rainfall in this period, Solan (42 per cent) received excess rainfall, the districts of Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Una, Hamirpur and Bilaspur received normal rainfall and the districts of Chamba, Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur received deficient rainfall.
Since 2010, the state has received more than normal only thrice in the pre monsoon period. In the month of May, the state received normal precipitation.
The state received 62.5 mm rainfall against the normal rainfall of 63.3 mm.
In the month of April, the state received a 36 per cent deficient precipitation, recording 40.8 mm actual rainfall against the normal rainfall of 64mm.
In the month of March, the state received 33 per cent deficient precipitation, recording 75.5 mm rainfall against the normal rainfall of 113.4 mm.
As per the weather department, light to moderate rain is likely at many places over the state on June 3-4. Light rainfall is likely at a few places over the state from up to June 7.
