Himachal: Three arrested with illegal weapons in separate cases
In a bid to get rid of illegal weapons from the crime-torn Baddi industrial belt, the police arrested a man and seized a countrymade weapon during a search on Saturday evening.
Baddi Additional SP Ashok Verma said a countrymade weapon was seized from a ‘jhuggi’ dweller, who was identified as 34-year-old Tota Ram at Haripur Sandholi village in Baddi. He is a native of Bisoli tehsil in Badayu district of Uttar Pradesh. A case was registered against him under Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act and he was arrested with the unauthorised weapon. Further investigation was underway to trace the source of the weapon as well as its use, said SP Verma.
He further said strict legal action would be taken against the culprits who used illegal weapons as they were a threat to the peace, and law and order of the area.
In another such case, the Nalagarh police have arrested Harvinder Singh (30), an Anandpur Sahib resident, and Sukhwinder Singh for their involvement in a money snatching case at gunpoint.
A complaint was received at Nalagarh on March 24, when Om Prakash, a resident of Saini Majra village, said three masked persons entered his confectionery shop and snatched Rs 35,000 from him by brandishing a sword and a countrymade pistol.
A case was registered under Sections 307, 331(4) and 3(5) of the BNS for theft and lurking house trespass and Sections 25, 54 and 59 of Arms Act. During the investigation of the case and examination of the CCTV footage along with other technical inputs, Jujhar Singh, a resident of Manjholi (22), was arrested on March 28. While the cases involving the use of illegal arms are coming to the fore in large numbers, the need to identify its users and curb its use has become vital to contain crime in the industrial belt, which has a large migrant population
