Shimla: A speeding SUV seriously injured an 18-year-old boxer, Ashika and her coach, Pankaj, as they were hit while walking home in Nogli, Shimla district, on Wednesday morning. The pair had just finished their practice and were returning when the car, travelling from Shimla to Rampur, lost control at around 9.30 am. The car first collided with a parked vehicle before striking the two pedestrians. Ashika sustained a fractured leg, while Pankaj suffered spinal injuries. Both were admitted to Khaneri Hospital for treatment. Police have arrested the driver, Ratan Dogra and registered a case.

Retd officer duped of Rs 82L

Hamirpur: A retired officer from Himachal Pradesh was scammed out of Rs 82 lakh by cyber fraudsters, with police registering the case. The victim, a former SDO, received a Facebook link that led him to a WhatsApp group of over 150 people. He was promised a 1200 per cent return on investments in fake stock apps and IPOs. Believing the scheme, he transferred the money in eight transactions. When the fraudsters failed to respond to his demands for a refund, he reported the matter to the Cyber Cell. Authorities froze Rs 16 lakh from the fraudsters' accounts.

peddler nabbed with heroin

Nurpur: The district anti-narcotics task force apprehended an inter-state drug peddler, Vinod Kumar, from Pathankot, Punjab. About 105 grams of heroin was recovered from his possession. Separately, the Rehan police arrested Abhishek Mankotia and Vansh, residents of Batran village, for possessing 6.78 grams of heroin.
