Admn to consider cycling lanes in Shimla

  • To promote cycling, the district administration of Shimla will consider setting up cycling lanes in various parts of the city, including CTO to Summer Hill, Chhota Shimla to Shimla Club and St Bede’s to Shimla Club, said Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap. He urged officials to provide a detailed proposal in this regard to ensure further proceedings.

The DC said there was a need to promote sports in the district so that players could excel on various platforms. According to information, 13 sports associations have been registered in the district. The DC assured the associations of every possible assistance from the district administration.

He also directed the officials to organise district-level award ceremonies once a year to encourage outstanding players. “Players performing well in district-level sports competitions will be honoured at these ceremonies,” he added.

Kashyap said athletes from the district who have won medals at the national level will be awarded Rs 16.8 lakh. He said there were 49 such players.

The Deputy Commissioner said documentaries will be made on each game for students. He requested the sports associations to provide details for making the documentaries. He said a meeting of the Sports Authority of India (SAI), Shillaru, will be convened. “Shillaru has a good ground along with a synthetic track. Therefore, a meeting with SAI officials will be held to discuss how the ground can be utilised for sportspersons,” he added.
