Hoteliers hopeful of good business in winter season

We have reopened the hotel industry of Kullu and Manali for tourists. Around 50 per cent hotels reopened on Thursday, while the remaining will open in the next few days. We were receiving inquires for room booking after the government opened the state borders. The winter season is approaching and we are hopeful that the tourist influx will increase in Kullu and Manali in the coming days.

Mandi, October 1

Hotels in Kullu and Manali reopened today after over six months. The Hoteliers Association Kullu-Manali had decided not to operate hotels for tourists till October 1 even though the government had opened the borders for anyone to visit the state. They were demanding basic infrastructure such as Covid testing facilities and a Covid care centre in Manali.

Anup Thakur, president of Hoteliers Association Kullu-Manali, said, “We have reopened the hotel industry of Kullu and Manali for tourists. Around 50 per cent hotels reopened today, while the remaining will open in the next few days”.

He said that they were receiving inquires for room booking after the government opened the state borders. “The winter season is approaching and we are hopeful that the tourist influx will increase in Kullu and Manali in the coming days,” he added.

“The Covid threat has also revived in Kullu and Manali with the opening of hotels. So, we urge the government to provide better health care facilities in Kullu to win the confidence of tourists,” he said.

Tourists were seen in the two towns today. Due to the proposed visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inaugurate the Atal tunnel at Rohtang on October 3, the VIP movement was also witnessed. Most of the VIPs are staying in Manali town, who would move to the Solang valley in Kullu and Sissu in Lahaul on October 3 for the Prime Minister’s visit.
