HP Electricity Regulatory Commission Chairman Devendra Kumar Sharma was elected president of the International Commission on Large Dams during the general assembly held at Chengdu in China. This commission has 106 member countries, including India. These countries work together for the exchange of knowledge in the field of planning, design, construction and safety of dams.

Sharma said that coming from a developing country, his election to this post meant a change in itself for the Dam Commission. He added that he would work on dam safety, gender diversity, participation of under-represented national committees, challenges of climate change for dams, hydropower development in under-utilised regions, capacity building and knowledge exchange.
