HPU, Hiroshima varsity begin new chapter in global research, tech

In a significant move to strengthen academic and research ties, Himachal Pradesh University (HPU), Shimla, is set to collaborate with Japan’s prestigious Hiroshima University on research and technological exchange across diverse fields. A discussion and interaction session to formalise this initiative was held on Monday at HPU, where the visiting Japanese delegation, led by Prof Osamah Yoshida, engaged with university faculty, researchers and students.

The interaction focused on expanding academic exchange and joint research, with special emphasis on exploring the heritage and tourism potential of the Buddhist Tourism Circuit. Both institutions also agreed to continue discussions on future exchange programmes in political science, history, tourism, life sciences, physics, biotechnology and technology. A presentation by the Local Coordinator offered the delegates an overview of HPU’s ongoing academic initiatives and collaborative projects.

Prof Yoshida highlighted the importance of international partnerships and shared Hiroshima University’s vision for deeper academic engagement with HPU. He expressed keen interest in student and faculty exchanges, joint research projects and interdisciplinary collaboration, noting the cultural and educational synergy between India and Japan.

As the discussion progressed, Prof BK Shivram, Dean of Studies, emphasised the importance of international academic partnerships and research exchange programmes. He highlighted HPU’s ongoing initiatives in interdisciplinary research and encouraged the delegation to explore collaborative projects with HPU faculty and students.

This was followed by inputs from Prof Mamta Mokta, Dean Students’ Welfare, who focused on student engagement and holistic development. She outlined HPU’s commitment to providing global learning opportunities and fostering cultural exchange through interactions like the current session.

The event concluded with a lively Q&A session, followed by closing remarks from the Chairperson, who summarised the discussions and outlined possible pathways for future cooperation. To further strengthen this academic partnership, an HPU delegation will soon visit Hiroshima University in Japan. The interaction was coordinated with support from Dr BS Chauhan, who played a key role in facilitating the dialogue.
