HPU signs pact with Taiwan varsity

The Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Yuan Ze University, Taiwan, for educational cooperation. The MOU was signed by HPU VC Prof Mahavir Singh and Prof Ching-Jong Liao, president of Yuan Ze University.

The universities will collaborate to pursue faculty and staff for research, lectures, discussion and other academic pursuits. Reciprocal exchange of undergraduate or graduate students for study and research, exchange of published information, collaboration in training programmes, internships or co-teaching.

Prof Singh said, “With the MoU, the universities aim to promote international educational cooperation and education exchanges. Both universities will endeavour to cooperate in joint educational programmes and research projects. To the extent feasible, both universities will encourage direct contact and cooperation between their faculty members, departments and research institutes under provision of this agreement.”

Arrangements for specific visits, dual degree programme and other forms of cooperation will be developed jointly and will be agreed upon for each specific case, Prof Singh said.

“No monetary consideration will be exchanged between the institutions. Both parties understand all financial arrangements will have to be negotiated and will depend on the availability of funds,” he added.

Prof Atul Thakur, Department of Material and Chemical Science Engineer, Taiwan University, was also present on the occasion.
