The Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) and Hospital, Shimla, will shortly go paperless and provide healthcare facilities to people in the digital mode. On the directions of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the surgery unit of the hospital has already stopped using paper. An IGMC spokesperson said that instead of using paper, the hospital was committed to adopting modern digital tools to ensure high-quality, efficient and patient-centric healthcare services.

“Under this upgraded system, all clinical and administrative processes of the Surgery Unit-1 will now be managed through the Health Management Information System (HMIS) portal,” he said. Under the paperless system, the hospital would provide discharge slips and patient treatment summaries in the digital mode. Further, the medical records and case sheets, lab reports and diagnostic test results, prescriptions and medication records, follow-up instructions and referrals would be provided digitally, he added.
