A tragic incident occurred on the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi campus at Kamand in Mandi district recently, when a female Assistant Professor took her own life by jumping from the fifth floor. According to the police, the deceased, who was a native of Mumbai, had been battling mental health issues for several years. The deceased was a faculty member at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at IIT-Mandi.

A suicide note recovered from her room cited stress and depression as the reasons behind her decision. The note read, “I have been suffering from this mental agony for a long time. I can no longer bear it.”

Mandi ASP Sagar Chander said the preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased died after jumping from the fifth floor of her residential building, ruling out any foul play in the incident. After conducting autopsy, the body was handed over to the family of the deceased for last rites.
