74-yr-old dies after ‘accidental’ poison uptake

Dharamsala: A 74-year-old man, Raghunath, son of Dhani Ram from Jamanabad village in Kangra district, died under mysterious circumstances after reportedly consuming a poisonous substance by mistake. Police sources revealed that Raghunath had a habit of consuming alcohol and may have ingested the toxic substance while in an intoxicated state. His family rushed him to Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda, but he passed away during treatment. Local police took custody of the body and sent it for post-mortem. Viscera samples have been preserved to ascertain the exact cause of poisoning. The body was later handed over to the family for last rites. Inquest proceedings have been initiated under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) to investigate the incident. TNS

Zero-waste sports competition

Shimla: The Chamiana panchayat, located on the periphery of Shimla, took a significant step towards promoting sustainability by organising a zero-waste three-day sports competition and cultural programme. With the encouragement of the ‘Waste Warriors’ organisation, the panchayat representatives made a concerted effort to minimise waste. The panchayat promoted the use of reusable utensils for food and beverages, reducing dry waste by approximately 30 kg. The event saw participation from 18 volleyball teams and eight women's tug-of-war teams from various panchayats. With these efforts, as many as 20 kg of dry waste was collected. TNS
