An anganwari worker, who was administered Covid vaccine on January 29, died at the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC) today morning after being unwell for about 15 days.

According to IGMC Medical Superintendent Dr Janak Raj, the woman, hailing from Hamipur, was fine until February 6 — more than a week after the vaccination.

“She became unwell after February 6 and was admitted to Tanda Medical College. She was referred to IGMC last night where she breathed her last,” said Dr Janak Raj.

Asked if her death could be considered a case of adverse effect following immunisation, the MS said nothing could be said with certainty before the post-mortem examination. “It will be irresponsible to say anything in this regard until her post-mortem reports are out,” he said.

The state has registered minimal adverse events following immunisation (AEFI) cases, and even those have been mild.
