DAV Senior Secondary Public School, Lakkar Bazaar, emerged victorious in first Shimla Inter-School Chess Championship, while Auckland House School for Boys and DAV, Totu, stood second and third, respectively. Twenty-one teams from 16 schools participated in the competition, with the total participation being 101 students.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
