Terming it as the budget of a common man, Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur said it was a road map for the aspirations of common man and the goal of developed India. “This Budget takes into account the interest of common man, who is the engine of the country’s development. It cannot be imagined that an income of more than Rs 1 lakh every month can be tax free. It will benefit 10 crore tax payers of the country,” he said.

Besides, increasing the income tax exemption for the elderly from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh will give them a lot of relief. Thakur said that 36 medicines used in the treatment of cancer have been exempted from custom duty and custom duty on 6 important life-saving medicines has been reduced to 5 per cent. Also, starting cancer care facility in district hospitals will help fight the disease better.

He further said that the Budget was dedicated to promoting innovation and scientific thinking in young minds. The youth will greatly benefit from the establishment of 50,000 Atal Tinkering Labs in government schools by the government. “This Budget will reduce the prices of insurance premium, medical equipment, mobile phones, clothes made in India, LED and LCD TVs,” he said.

He said the announcement of PM Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana will benefit 1.7 crore farmers. “This Budget is dedicated to the youth, poor, food providers and women of the country,” he said.
