The Himachal Pradesh High Court today extended the interim relief granted to former MD of HP Power Corporation Ltd (HPPCL) Harikesh Meena in the case related to the death of Chief Engineer Vimal Negi till August 11.

During the course of hearing, the counsel for the CBI filed a status report in a sealed cover, which was opened in the court. After perusing the report, Justice Virender Singh, on the request of the counsel for the CBI, ordered to re-seal the report with a further direction to hand it over to the Registrar General of the Court, for safe custody.

While passing this order, the court ordered to produce the report as and when directed. The court, in its earlier order, had granted interim relief to Meena by restraining the prosecution agency to take any coercive action against him.

The body of Vimal Negi, a Chief Engineer of HPPCL, was found in the Gobind Sagar Lake in Bilaspur on March 18. After Negi went missing, his wife wrote a letter to the Chief Minister alleging that the higher officials of the HPPCL were harassing her husband. Acting on the complaint, an FIR was lodged at New Shimla police station.
