The Income Tax Department organised an awareness camp in Nurpur on Thursday to sensitise taxpayers. Representatives of Vyapar Mandals, individual taxpayers, chartered accountants and tax counsellors attended the session.

Presiding over the camp, Gourav Kumar, Income Tax Officer (ITO), Nurpur, emphasised the importance of timely payment of advance income tax, urging participants to prioritise advance tax over self-assessment tax and to avoid errors while filing Income Tax Returns.

He cautioned against making incorrect claims for tax deductions or exemptions and educated participants about their rights and responsibilities as taxpayers. Kumar noted that the Central Board of Direct Taxes had initiated a detailed probe into refund cases last year, uncovering numerous instances of wrong deduction claims.

Clarifying the broader purpose of taxation, the ITO stressed that tax payment is not only a legal obligation but also a meaningful contribution to the nation’s development.
