The Synapse Club of the Department of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, Jaypee University of Information Technology, Waknaghat, Solan, organised a series of webinars for the students. The designated faculty coordinators included Dr Hemant Sood and Dr Tirth Raj Singh, among other members. In view of the Covid-19 pandemic, the club is making efforts to provide guidance to the students on achieving their goals.

Education Minister reviews civil works

Education Minister Suresh Bhardwaj presided over the meeting of the Public Works Department to review various ongoing civil works under the Rashtriya Uchtar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA). He reviewed 20 construction works of various colleges being carried out under the RUSA. Bhardwaj directed the PWD officers to complete the maximum number of works by December. He said works worth Rs 40 crore were underway. He directed the officers to complete the building of Model College, Sarahan, by October 31.

SFI slams private education institutes

The SFI, Shimla, has slammed online education and arbitrary functioning of private educational institutions. The SFI district head, Anil Thakur, said students were being harassed in the name of online education in the state. He also questioned the figures put out by the Education Minister about the number of students getting online education. He said the reality was totally different, as only a handful students were able to study online. The students’ body demanded that the decision to levy 18 per cent GST on education should be rolled back, failing which the body would start an agitation against the government.

Training programme at NYK, Una

In an effort to promote the ‘Vocal for local’ campaign, a training session was held at the Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK) in Una, which was attended by youth volunteers from different parts of the district. The NYK District Coordinator, Dr Lal Singh, educated the youth on achieving greater levels of self-sustainability by working from the grassroots level. He talked about various schemes being promoted by the government for the youth in this direction.
