Justice Vivek Thakur Executive Chairman of Legal Services Authority

Justice Vivek Singh Thakur, senior most judge of Himachal Pradesh High Court, has been appointed as the Executive Chairman of Himachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority.

This appointment has been made by the Governor in consultation with the Chief Justice of the High Court.

Justice Thakur, who hails from Lanjata village of Ghumarwin tehsil of Bilaspur district, comes from a reputed educationalist family. His father Thakur Narayan Singh Swami was an MLA in Himachal Vidhan Sabha, while mother Gurdevi Thakur retired as Principal in a Senior Secondary School.

After securing the highest rank in LLB and BJMC from Himachal Pradesh University, he did LLM from Kurukshetra University. After enrolling as an advocate in Himachal Pradesh Bar Council in 1990, he practised in revenue, civil, criminal, constitutional, service, arbitration and tax matters in other judicial institutions, including the High Court. He has also worked as Assistant Advocate General, Additional Advocate General and Senior Panel Counsel of the Government of India.

He was appointed a Judge of Himachal Pradesh High Court on April 12, 2016. Justice Vivek Singh Thakur has also been the president and Governing Board member of Himachal Pradesh Judicial Academy.
