Construction of the long-awaited Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) hospital in the industrial hub of Kala Amb is expected to complete by the end of October. According to officials, the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) is slated to hand over the facility to the ESIC in the first week of November.

The project, however, faced a delay of nearly two months due to financial hurdles, but work has now resumed at full pace. The hospital, constructed with modern technology, will initially have a capacity of 30 beds, with provisions to expand it to 100 beds in the future. This facility is set to benefit approximately 40,000 workers employed in the industrial areas of Kala Amb, Paonta Sahib and the surrounding regions, along with residents of 11 nearby panchayats.

Built on 16 bighas at an estimated cost of Rs 96 crore, the hospital is expected to be inaugurated in November, with sources suggesting that a Union Minister may attend the opening ceremony. The ESIC has already appointed a Medical Superintendent (MS) for the hospital, marking a significant step towards its operational readiness. The CPWD is not only overseeing the construction of the hospital, but also installing essential medical equipment, which is currently in its final stages.

The housing facilities for doctors and paramedical staff have already been completed, ensuring that the necessary infrastructure is in place for the hospital’s functioning.

Bharat Bhardwaj, the Executive Engineer of CPWD, confirmed the timeline, stating, “The hospital’s construction will complete by the end of October, and we will hand it over to the ESIC in the first week of November. Despite some financial challenges that caused delays, all obstacles have now been resolved.”

Once operational, the ESIC hospital is expected to significantly enhance healthcare services in the region, catering to both industrial workers and local residents, who have long awaited improved medical facilities in this part of Himachal Pradesh.
