The Central Government has approved two new Kendriya Vidyalayas for the state. While one will be opened at Kotkhai in Shimla district, the other has been approved for Paonta Sahib in Sirmaur district.

Education Minister Rohit Thakur yesterday said that the schools were approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the basis of proposals of the state government. These two schools are among 57 new Kendriya Vidyalayas approved for the entire country.

The minister said that these institutions would provide education from the pre-primary level onwards as per the CBSE curriculum in line with the National Education Policy, 2020. “Thousands of children in the state will have access to quality education and modern infrastructure closer to their homes. These schools will also reduce the need to migrate for better educational opportunities,” he added.

He said that each Kendriya Vidyalaya provided direct employment to around 80 teaching and non-teaching staff, while the construction and allied works associated with these schools generate further opportunities for skilled and unskilled workers, thereby contributing towards the local economy.

Rohit said that the state government would try and get more Central Government-sponsored institutions, particularly in aspirational and educationally under-served districts. “These efforts and reforms in the education sector reflect the vision of transforming Himachal into a knowledge hub, ensuring every child has equal access to quality education, modern facilities and opportunities to excel,” the minister added.
