The Lahaul and Spiti Police have issued a safety advisory for travellers using the Sansari-Killar-Thirot-Tandi (SKTT) road, particularly near Kadu Nala, about 84 km from Lahaul. The road has become increasingly hazardous due to continuous sliding and shooting stones, posing a significant risk to vehicles and pedestrians.

In light of the ongoing danger, the police have strongly advised travellers heading towards Killar from the Lahaul side to avoid unnecessary travel after 5 pm. This is because the risk of stone slides and landslides increases after sunset, making it difficult to detect potential hazards in the dark.

The SKTT road is crucial for connecting Lahaul with remote areas of Killar and beyond in Chamba district. However, it has been prone to landslides and other natural disturbances, especially during winter months.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have urged people to plan their travel during daylight hours when visibility is better, and the chances of encountering sliding stones are reduced. The Lahaul and Spiti Police have reassured the public that safety measures are in place and will continue to be enforced to minimise risks.

SP Lahaul and Spiti Mayank Chaudhary emphasised the importance of staying updated on weather conditions and road status before embarking on a journey. This advisory is part of the ongoing efforts to protect residents and tourists in the region during challenging weather conditions.
