In a bid to preserve the culture and heritage of the state, langar is now being served on plates made of taur leaves at the Sankat Mochan temple near the state’s capital.

The taur plates have replaced the steel plates, on which langar was served earlier.

Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap said this was the second temple in the city where langar was being served on taur leaves.

“The responsibility for supplying these leaves has been assigned to the Saksham cluster-level federation, Basantpur, which operates under the National Rural Employment Mission of the District Rural Development Authority. The federation is providing 4,000 taur leaf plates for the temple,” he added.

He said the district administration planned to implement this practice in all temples across the district.

“The first phase of this initiative was started on July 14 at the Tara Devi temple. In the second phase, taur leaf plates have been introduced at the Sankat Mochan temple, and the next phase will see the introduction of taur leaf plates to serve langar at the Hanuman temple in Jakhu,” he added.

The DC said the district administration was committed to strengthening the rural economy, and creating employment opportunities for self-help groups through this initiative.
