In an effort to revive and expand water-based tourism activities, the Tourism Department has initiated a fresh process to launch water sports at the scenic lake located in the Kullu district.
According to officials, previous attempts to invite tenders for operating water sports did not receive any response from firms. To overcome this hurdle, the department has now relaxed several earlier conditions, making it easier for operators to participate. A dedicated committee has also been formed to facilitate the process and ensure smooth execution. Fresh tenders have been invited and will remain open until December 16.
District Tourism Development Officer Rohit Sharma confirmed that all formalities are underway. “The department has started the process to resume water sports activities at Larji Lake. Once the procedures are completed, activities can begin,” he said.
The move is expected to significantly boost tourism in the region. Larji Lake’s upcoming water sports offerings will add a new dimension to the experiences available to travellers already visiting Kullu-Manali for snow-covered peaks, river rafting, paragliding, rock climbing, river crossing, trekking and other adventure activities.
Officials and locals alike believe that introducing water sports at Larji Lake will not only attract more tourists but also provide employment opportunities for youth, especially in the Banjar and Kullu areas. The initiative could open new avenues for local businesses and strengthen the district’s tourism economy.
While optimism is high, all eyes are now on how quickly the tender process concludes and when the much-awaited water sports finally begin at Larji Lake.
