Law students from APG Shimla University gained practical legal exposure during a visit to the National Lok Adalat held at the District Court Complex, Chakkar in Shimla. The visit was organised under the guidance of the District Legal Services Authority and the Himachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority to familiarise students with alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.

Students from the BA LLB and LLB programmes at the School of Legal Studies and Research attended the Lok Adalat on Saturday, accompanied by their Head of Department, Dr Bhavna Verma and Assistant Professor Anupama Thakur. The aim of the visit was to introduce students to the procedures used in Lok Adalats for the amicable settlement of disputes.

During the visit, the students observed proceedings in the courts of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, District and Sessions Judge, and Judicial Magistrates of First and Second Class. They gained valuable insight into the functioning of Lok Adalats as an effective forum for dispute resolution established under the Legal Services Authorities Act.

Dr Bhavna Verma said the initiative not only enhanced the students’ practical understanding of the legal system but also gave them a greater appreciation of alternative dispute resolution and the workings of the legal profession. She expressed gratitude to the District Legal Services Authority and the Himachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority for providing the students with this learning opportunity.
