Library inaugurated at Chamba’s Gulera

Chamba Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repaswal on Thursday inaugurated the newly constructed Bal Vihar Kunj Library at Gulera village. The library has been established with financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh provided by the NITI Aayog.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, the DC said the library would not only benefit the local panchayat but also prove valuable for the youth and residents of nearly eight adjoining panchayats. Highlighting the importance of education in rural areas, he also referred to Gandhian thoughts in development and social uplift. He said the library has a seating capacity of 46 and added that there are plans to establish a girls’ hostel in the same building in the future.

The DC expressed gratitude to Ratan Chand, founder of Swati Memorial Trust, and his wife Bimla Devi, for their generous contribution. Ratna Chand donated the land for the library and also personally undertook the building’s construction. Terming the gesture exemplary, Repaswal said society must take inspiration from such philanthropic efforts and contribute towards public welfare.

On the occasion, the DC also extended greetings to the local people on Vijayadashami and the inauguration of the library. He urged the youth to make full use of the library facilities so that it can emerge as a key centre of knowledge and learning.

The event also saw addresses by various officials and dignitaries, including education experts, who shared their views on the significance of books in shaping life and society.
