Live grenade found near public school, defused in Nurpur

A live, powerful hand grenade, marked model H-E-36, was discovered under mysterious circumstances near a private public school at an isolated location along the seasonal Kutkana rivulet in Kher village here on Sunday.

The grenade was first spotted by a local resident who had gone to graze cattle in the area. Upon noticing the suspicious object, the resident immediately informed the police.

A police team quickly rushed to the site and identified the object as an Unidentified Explosive Object (UXO).

Fatehpur SDM Vishut Bharti notified the district administration, which, in turn, contacted the army authorities.

Following coordination between the district administration and the bomb disposal team of the 202nd Engineer Regiment, Mamoon Cantonment (Pathankot), the area was cordoned off. The grenade was successfully defused without incident.

Nurpur SP Ashok Ratan informed The Tribune that a case had been registered under Section 3 of the Explosive Substances Act and Section 125 of the BNS Act at the Rehan police station.

He confirmed that the grenade was live, with its pin intact, and could have caused a significant explosion if detonated accidentally. Further investigation is underway, he added.
