Addressing the students, Justice Barowalia emphasised that law is not merely a profession but a powerful instrument for social transformation — one that must be pursued with dedication, honesty and a sense of service.
The week-long induction programme aimed to familiarise new students with the academic, administrative and professional aspects of legal education while offering practical insights into the legal field.
On the inaugural day, Prof Rajinder Verma, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, HPU, delivered the keynote address, encouraging students to go beyond examinations and engage in deep, practical learning, honing logical reasoning and a broad worldview.
Students toured the Central Library and Law Library, guided by Rameshwar Thakur, Senior Professional Assistant, and Shyam Lal, Assistant Librarian, to acquaint themselves with research tools and legal literature.
Subsequent sessions included a talk on mental health and stress management by Prof SN Ghosh (retd) and a career guidance session by the University Placement Officer. On August 6, Dean of Student Welfare Prof Mamta Mokta addressed student welfare, grievance redressal, anti-ragging and sexual harassment policies, highlighting the importance of a safe and inclusive campus.
Advocate Pardeep Verma of the Himachal Pradesh High Court discussed opportunities in the legal profession, while former Additional Advocate General Narendra Guleria conducted a session on advocacy skills, covering effective argumentation, drafting pleadings and courtroom presentation techniques.
The programme was coordinated by Prof Shiv Kumar Dogra (Coordinator) and Prof Umesh Kumar (Co-Coordinator), with support from committee members Dr Abhishek Negi and Dr Ramesh Verma.
