The Deputy Speaker of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Vinay Kumar, attended the closing ceremony of a six-day cricket tournament organised by Maa Durga Cricket Club at Dr Prem Singh Memorial Cricket Stadium in Maina Bagh village yesterday.

Addressing the gathering, Kumar emphasised the state government’s efforts to promote sports by constructing small and large playgrounds in rural areas. “This initiative aims to nurture talented players at the grassroots level and prepare them for national and international platforms,” he stated.

Highlighting the importance of effective sports management alongside event organisation, Kumar added, “We must provide platforms for talented youth to showcase their skills.” He further suggested involving representatives from Bownal and Kakog villages in the tournament committee to enhance its reach and success.

The Deputy Speaker congratulated the organising committee for the event’s success, which saw participation from approximately 60 rural teams. In the final match, Mahakal Lana Palar defeated Sports Club Sangrah to claim victory. Kumar awarded the winning team a trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 71,000, while the runner-up team received a trophy and Rs. 31,000 in cash.
