Shimla, July 9
A 59-year-old man was arrested on charges of having allegedly raped an 11-year-old girl in Shimla’s Jathia Devi on Friday, police sources said.
The victim was a girl of Nepalese origin, police said, and the incident occurred in their absence. The suspect was the landlord of their rented room who had threatened to kill her if she told anyone of the alleged rape, police sources said.
In her complaint, the child’s mother, to whom the child narrated the incident later, said that her daughter was in pain when she returned home on July 7.
Shimla Police said they booked the suspect for rape (section 376) and criminal intimidation (Section 506) as well as sections of the Protection of Children against Sexual Offences Act.
