Man gets 20-year RI for raping granddaughter

Shimla, February 29

A court here today sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping his granddaughter.

The Additional District and Sessions Judge, Fast Track Special Court (RAPE/POCSO), Shimla, Amit Mandiyal also fined the accused Rs 25,000 under Protection of Children against Sexual Offences Act. He has also been awarded a six months of rigorous imprisonment and Rs 1,000 fine under Section 506 of Indian Penal Code (IPC).

On December 3, 2021, the accused had raped the victim in a jungle while she was on her way to school. He also threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident to anyone. On December 12, 2021, the accused again raped the victim twice at his residence.

When the girl’s mother took her to the hospital, she found that her daughter is pregnant after which she approached the police.

The police registered FIR under Sections 376, 506 of IPC and Section 6 of POCSO Act at Chirgaon Police Station in Shimla district. The prosecution examined 17 witnesses.
