The Election Commission (EC) today announced bypolls to three parliamentary constituencies, including Mandi in Himachal Pradesh, and 30 Assembly segments in 14 states on October 30. The counting will be held on November 2.

From the region

  • Himachal: Mandi (LS seat), Fatehpur, Arki and Jubbal-Kotkhai (3 Assembly seats)
  • Haryana: Ellenabad (Assembly seat)

“The commission has reviewed the situation related to pandemic, flood, festivals, cold conditions in certain regions and taken feedback from the states and UTs concerned,” the EC said in a statement. The Assembly segments, which will go to the polls include Badvel (SC) in Andhra Pradesh; Gossaigaon, Bhabanipur, Tamulpur, Mariani and Thowra in Assam; Kusheshwar Asthan (SC) and Tarapur in Bihar; Ellenabad in Haryana; Fatehpur, Arki, and Jubbal-Kotkhai in Himachal Pradesh; Sindgi and Hangal in Karnataka; Prithvipur, Raigaon (SC) and Jobat (ST) in Madhya Pradesh; Deglur (SC) in Maharashtra; Mawryngkneng (ST), Mawphlang (ST) and Rajabala in Meghalaya; Tuirial (ST) in Mizoram; Shamtorr-Chessore (ST) in Nagaland; Vallabhnagar and Dhariawad (ST) in Rajasthan; Huzurabad in Telangana; and Dinhata, Santipur, Khardaha and Gosaba (SC) in West Bengal.

The notification for the bypolls will be released on October 1, and the last date for filing nominations is October 8.

The Election Commission has scheduled the examination of nominations on October 11, while the last date for withdrawal of nominations is October 13. — TNS
