Mandi MC launches scientific mapping of urban land records

The Municipal Corporation of Mandi has initiated advanced ground-training aimed at modernising urban land records and implementing scientific mapping under the Naksha programme. Municipal Commissioner Rohit Rathour inaugurated the training yesterday. He emphasised the importance of accurate and technology-driven mapping for efficient urban governance.

Rathour explained all technical aspects related to the Naksha initiative so that the participants could gain a clear understanding of the processes involved. Additional Settlement Officer Chiranjilal also presented the department’s detailed action plan to all participants.

Experts from various collaborating organisations, including Dr Manoj Sharma from the State Project Management Unit, Sarfaraz Ahmed from the MPSEDC and Sudarshan and Ravi from Extragent Private Limited, Hyderabad, attended the programme.

According to Rathour, around 60 Patwaris and Kanungos from the Revenue and Settlement Departments were undergoing this specialised training. They would soon undertake ground truthing of urban land records in Mandi city.

During the training, master trainers conducted rover testing and explained the step-by-step execution of the mapping programme. Special focus was placed on ensuring accuracy, transparency and smooth implementation of the entire scientific mapping process.

“This first phase of the training includes only the Municipal Corporation of Mandi. The participants were introduced to key processes such as ground truthing, real-time data capture, geo-tagging, boundary verification and data uploading,” said Rathour.

The project marks a significant step by the state government towards ensuring precise, digitised data management in urban land records. Once implemented in the Municipal Corporation of Mandi, the initiative is expected to make land-related information more accessible, updated and scientifically reliable for urban areas.
