Raw materials and machinery worth lakhs were destroyed in a massive fire, which erupted at a surgical equipment manufacturing unit at Katha village in Baddi today. No loss of life was reported.

A crew of eight firemen, along with three fire tenders, was dispatched to the site from Baddi soon after the receipt of information at 11.30 am, said Santosh Sharma, Commandant, Home Guards, Solan.

He said the fire was brought under control after few hours and a fire tender was stationed there as a precaution.

According to the company staff, the fire erupted from a drier and spread to other areas of the plant, gutting raw material and machinery on the ground floor.

Since the factory had ample exit points, the employees managed to escape in time.

Renovation was underway on the second floor and no manufacturing activity was being undertaken there.
