MC to seek funds for waste-to-wonder park in Shimla dist

The Municipal Corporation of Shimla is set to construct its first-ever waste-to-wonder park at the historic Ridge, with plans to seek funding from the state government. Inspired by New Delhi’s waste-to-wonder park, the project aims to attract tourists and recycle plastic waste effectively. The proposal to secure funds for the park, along with a multipurpose complex at Sabzi Mandi, was approved during the recent monthly corporation meeting.

Mayor Surender Chauhan revealed that the park will be developed on vacant land owned by the corporation, spanning areas from the Ridge to Rivoli Theatre and the Lakkar Bazaar bus stand. “The park will feature sculptures made from discarded materials, lush green spaces, walking paths, a café, and play areas for children,” said the Mayor.

Construction will begin as soon as the required budget is allocated, with plans to complete the project within a year. An entry fee will be charged to visitors, and the revenue generated will support the park’s maintenance and future development.

The park is expected to become a key tourist attraction, offering locals and visitors a unique recreational space amidst the scenic beauty of Shimla. This initiative is part of the corporation’s broader strategy to promote sustainable practices while enhancing the town’s tourism appeal.
