McLeodganj, Naddi abuzz with tourists for New Year festivities

Dharamsala is buzzing with energy as a large influx of tourists arrives to celebrate the New Year amid the snow-laden Dhauladhar mountains. A crowd of travellers, mostly youngsters, was seen disembarking from Volvo buses near Maximus Mall early this morning, having journeyed overnight to revel in the scenic beauty and festive atmosphere of the region.

Major tourist hotspots, including McLeodganj, Naddi, Bhagsu, Indrunag, Thathri and Lunta, are witnessing significant footfall, with long queues of vehicles on the roads and tourists waiting outside hotels. Visitors hail not only from different parts of India, such as Delhi and Mumbai, but also from abroad, drawn by the cold weather, serene environment, and picturesque landscapes. Shaweta, a tourist from Delhi, expressed her delight, saying, “The weather and environment here are amazing. We’re looking forward to three days of non-stop fun.”

The recent snowfall has transformed the Dhauladhar range into a winter wonderland, with popular trekking destinations like Triund, Indrahar, Utharna, Guna Mata and Adi Himani Shri Chamunda covered in pristine snow. Triund, a globally renowned trekking spot, is currently blanketed in one and a half feet of snow, adding to the excitement of adventure enthusiasts.

The festive season is a boon for the local economy, with hotels, restaurants, taxis, and small businesses expecting significant earnings. Private hoteliers have gone the extra mile, decorating their properties to welcome guests for New Year’s Eve celebrations. The fresh snowfall has added a magical touch to the festivities, with tourists enjoying the vibrant ambiance of McLeodganj, indulging in steaming bowls of thukpa and plates of momos from street vendors.

The region’s charm, combined with the allure of snow and festivities, has made Dharamsala and its surroundings the perfect destination for New Year celebrations, ensuring 2024 ends on a high note.
