A preliminary inquiry revealed that Gaur had been working in the area as a painter. He had reportedly become mentally disturbed following a breakup with his fiancée, which was believed to have led him to take the extreme step. He allegedly hanged himself with a piece of cloth from the ceiling fan of his rented room.

The police had initiated inquest proceedings into the incident.
