Himachal Pradesh Jal Shakti Minister Mahender Singh Thakur today inaugurated the wrestling (dangal) competition of the Churah Mahotsav at Bhanjraru by performing ‘puja’ as per local rituals. Vidhan Sabha Deputy Speaker Hans Raj was also present on the occasion.

In this competition, as many as 200 wrestlers (men and women) from 12 gymnasiums, including foreign wrestlers from Iran and Nepal, are participating. The wrestling competition would conclude tomorrow.

In the inaugural event, the competition was held between women wrestlers Archana of Sonepat and Drishti, a sub-junior national medalist of Delhi.

The Churah Mela Committee, Bhanjraru, will give away a prize of Rs 2 lakh to the winner as ‘Churah Kesari’ title of the competition. The title ‘Churah Kumar’ for the male category will come with a Rs 21,000 award and the ‘Churah girl Kesari’ title will come with Rs 11,000 award.

Earlier, the minister laid the foundation stone of three drinking water schemes, which will be implemented at a cost about Rs 4 crore at Kala Manch Bhanjraru.

Addressing the public, he said to ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply in every area of the Churah Assembly constituency, Rs 60-crore Tissa-Tikrigarh drinking water scheme and Rs 15-crore Kalhel drinking water scheme would be accorded approval by the government soon.
