Himachal minister Negi inspects work on Nachan school

Revenue and Horticulture Minister Jagat Singh Negi yesterday visited an under-construction building of Government Atal Adarsh Vidyalaya at Gudahar near Gohar in the Nachan Assembly constituency of Mandi district. He reviewed the progress of the construction work and issued necessary instructions to the officials present there.

As per the local administration, Rs 33 crore has already been spent on the construction of this key educational infrastructure. The minister emphasised the timely completion of the project ensuring quality. He highlighted the state government’s commitment to strengthening educational facilities in remote and rural regions.

Negi also inspected an HPMC cold store located nearby. He was briefed on the damage caused to the building due to landslides and debris in recent flashfloods. He instructed the departments concerned to clear the debris and re-operationalise the facility at the earliest.

He also visited the hostel building of Government College, Basa. In an informal interaction with mediapersons, Negi acknowledged the significant damage caused by cloudbursts and flashfloods in the Nachan and Seraj Assembly constituencies. He said that the state government would provide every possible help to the affected people and relief and rehabilitation efforts were underway on a war footing.

The minister said that he would be visiting the Government College of Horticulture and Forestry at Thunag to assess the situation there. According to preliminary reports, the college building has been deemed to be unsafe for conducting classes after the natural disaster. The government was actively exploring alternative locations for conducting academic activities and a decision would be taken soon ensuring the safety of students.

Negi said that several government buildings in the region were at present vacant and had been inspected for potential alternative arrangements. He added that under the leadership of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the government had revised the relief manual after the 2023 disaster and increased compensation by up to 25 times.
